Jack Bayliss & Wendy Proctor did the long-established NYP (‘Black Sheep Brewery’) Ripon Triathlon now organised by Freebird Events, on the weekend of 2 / 3 July. Jack was racing in the Olympic distance on the Saturday afternoon, and Wendy in the (new) Sprint on the Sunday morning. (It is rare that Wendy is seen on a bike at all these days, but after completing the Olympic distance a few years ago she couldn’t resist a crack at the sprint, albeit on the back of no bike training at all – the time confirms this).
This year the Olympic distance was an age-group qualifier event – Louise Minchin of BBC Breakfast was among the 1,200 competitors.
The swim takes place in the Ripon racecourse lake, bike largely on the A61, and the run along the Ripon Canal and country lanes. It’s an excellent event for families, with weekend camping/pasta party/barbeque on site, bouncy castle, etc. There were several Tri-Star races for children on the Sunday which were very well-supported – we watched the under 8s competing in their event.
Jack 2:38:36 Olympic – (31/1.15.52/48.41)
Wendy 1:39:27 Sprint – (15.24/52.29/27.22)
