Lee Jay Watson and Helen Mason took the top prizes at Newcastle Triathlon Club’s annual awards – triumphing in the 2017 club championships men’s and women’s categories.
For Lee Jay it was a particularly impressive achievement since he competed in adult races as a junior.
Another junior – Eden Schiller – also took the adult women’s performance of the year award, in the category that is voted by the membership.
During a memorable night at the North Stafford Hotel Debs Clarke was awarded with the inaugural Matheson award for outstanding achievement, in recognition of her indomitable spirit, smiles and willingness to encourage others. Debs also took the most improved female prize and 2nd place in the club championships.
Fraser Murray, who last year ran the London Marathon using NTC’s place, handed over the club “baton” to James Hobson who has won the spot that is granted to the club by England Athletics.
Master of ceremonies Richard Hall entertained the 140 guests and entertainment was provided by band The Right Stuff.
