Our cycling sessions consist of group rides in and around the local area. These rides are structured into three groups, a fast group a steady group and a development group. All are led by experienced riders.
These rides are designed to improve bike handling skills as well as building speed and endurance. The rides are a great way of building your fitness and learning to ride in a group. Plus they are ideal for picking up tips and advice about cycling in general.
There are 5 main things to consider before doing an NTC group ride:
1. Suitable clothing – extra layers are a must in winter and a waterproof in summer
2. Spares – inner tubes, tyre levers and a pump
3. Food/drink – carry a drink and a snack
4. Mudguards – protect you and others from spray off the road surface
5. Clean your bike – get into the habit and prevent a mechanical breakdown
Group Saturday Rides
We have a list of different routes each week which helps to keep things interesting
These include a mixture of fast, flat rides and hilly rides which take place in the attractive Staffordshire/Cheshire/Derbyshire/Shropshire countryside and often include a cafe stop. The winter rides are designed to build ‘base fitness’ and tend to be shorter, taking into account the weather conditions. The summer rides may be a little longer.
These are accompanied by our winter Wednesday indoor cycling sessions on spin bikes which are great for building strength and stamina, and also various skills sessions to improve bike handling for training and racing.
In the summer we run a chain gang, which may be split into two groups of different speeds. Expect to get back an hour and a half or two hours later, depending on the light.
